Hearts In Hands provides many kinds of repair services, including:
- Build wheelchair ramps
- Install handrails
- Repair minor roof leaks
- Replace water heaters
- Repair rotten porches
- Replace rotten floors
- Repair minor plumbing leaks
- Secure pest control services
- Provide appliances
How to Apply
To apply for home repair services from Hearts In Hands, please contact us at (205) 547-0306. You will be contacted within five (5) business days by a representative. The representative will discuss your physical need as well as your financial need in order to determine your eligibility for services. If the representative determines that you may qualify, a home visit will be scheduled to further assess your need. During this home visit, we will discuss your eligibility status, assist you in completing the required paperwork.
Eligibility Guidelines
Hearts In Hands, Inc. believes that in order to be good stewards of the resources that have been entrusted to us, we must establish guidelines for client eligibility that enable us to carry out our mission of serving the poor and needy in our community who do not have the resources to help themselves. Hearts In Hands does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetic information.
The following guidelines have been adopted for services provided by Hearts In Hands, Inc.:
- Households will be deemed ineligible for services if any resident is physically capable of completing the requested work themselves.
- Eligible clients must own the home where work is to be performed.
- Rental and business properties are ineligible for services.
- Eligible clients may receive a maximum benefit of $1500 annually from Hearts In Hands. Benefits may exceed this limit only with a hardship exception approved by the Board of Directors.
- The income requirements for an individual client may be waived or adjusted by the Board of Directors only in cases of extreme financial or physical hardship.
The following table gives the client eligibility guidelines. These guidelines are based on the 2024 Poverty Guidelines published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
